Where Ideas Take Shape
We believe in doing things differently—with intention, with passion, and with people at the center of it all. Every detail here reflects that mindset. Please explore the visual final projects created by the students of the Why We Strut Mentorship.Money Lee
I strut because I love it. It helps me stand tall and take up space with my art. Strutting connects me to myself and to the people around me. It's taught me how to be more assertive and confident, both on and off the dance floor….
….It's incredibly inspiring to learn and progress alongside like-minded people from such diverse backgrounds and places in the world. The classes are thoughtfully structured yet flexible, adapting throughout the program in a highly effective way. Progress is strikingly visible within a two hour class. The community is an amazing added bonus where we support each other, stay accountable with homework and build meaningful, lasting connections.
Minh and Mads
Minh: ….Struttin’ quite single-handedly gave me a reality check and taught me to go through the rite of passage, lean back into the past, build a solid foundation that is the present and embrace changes and innovations that are to come in the future….
Mads: ….This struttin’ practice is telling me to slow down and pause, to not shrink myself, to move bigger and be louder. My favorite part about this learning process has been to share this dance with my partner, and talking to my mom about her taste in funk and soul music….
Becky
…..Why We Strut gave me the space to explore the foundational movements of strutting in a way that honors its history while also reflecting who I am as a dancer. As an animator, I loved learning how to blend both the mechanical movements with the dance.
We also got to experiment with different music within funk and soul, which deepened my connection to strutting even more. During one of our online classes, Rashaad explained how, “repetition is care,” and that really stuck with me. It reminded me to take time with movement, to sink into it, and don't be afraid to repeat rather than rush to what’s next….
Radu
…..I wanted to know more about Strutting and get a better understanding, since I only knew bits and pieces. It always interested me, from the moment I was made aware of the style’s existence, but I hadn’t dedicated myself to understanding it thoroughly until now….
Emile
I tend to get carried away by the energy of a song, myself or a crowd and strutting has given me space to be more intentional, to take more my time and be patient, working on the quality and finesse of motion…..
Danny
I was interested in learning more about strutting because I was really drawn by the freedom of expression I saw in it. Why we strut gave me invaluable education into the history, traditions, and movement of strutting.
I strut to express myself as freely as I can!
